The Fishermen's Entrance to The Fish Bowl |
|
One of the most secluded spots
on the Dirt Road Section of Dunbar Creek is The
Fish Bowl. Accessible only via a low tunnel of
wild rhododendron, the Bowl is the result of a U
shaped flotsam dam (With the top of the U on the
eastern shore) that splits the flow of Dunbar
Creek into two routes. The majority of the water
is diverted to the western side of the stream
where its action scours the bottom, creating the
Bypass Hole at the base of the U shaped dam. A
small portion of the water flows through openings
in the upstream side of the U. Openings in the
base of the U, into the Bypass Hole, allow the
water to escape the Fish Bowl. The two openings
permit a constant flow of fresh cool water
through the bowl and providing easy access to the
area by fish. The fishbowl is scoured during
extreme high flow conditions by water going over
the top of the dam on both sides of the U.
